  1. First, Netflix does not ship on Saturdays or Sundays or holidays so those days are excluded.  For example, May 29, 2006 is a postal holiday.  After subtracting these days we are left with 22 shipping days.
  2. If it takes 3 business days for Netflix rentals to reach your home from your local distribution center then you should receive your rentals on the fourth day.  For example, if Netflix ships your rentals on the 1st of the month you should receive them at home by the 4th.
  3. In this example, if you return your rentals 1 business day later, Netflix should receive them on the 10th.  This cycle is repeated throughout the entire month.
  4. Add up all the days rentals are delivered to your home.  In this example there are 3 days.
  5. Multiply that number by your subscription plan for the total number of rental possible each month.  For example, if you had a 3-at-a-time subscription plan during May 2006, 9 is the maximum possible rentals in that month (3 x 3).

Throttled subscribers often receive their rentals from across country which is generally 3-day shipping.  If a subscriber's local distribution center is only 1 day away, Netflix has throttled that subscriber's rentals by 63%.
